This Privacy Policy explains how Transcriptr ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information about you when you use our Instagram Reel transcript generator at transcriptr.app (the "Service"). Please read it carefully.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google OAuth. We store this to identify your account and associate transcripts with you.
Usage Data
We record each transcription action (timestamp, transcript ID, and plan tier) to enforce monthly usage limits and prevent abuse. We do not log IP addresses against individual transcripts.
Payment Information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We store only your Stripe Customer ID and Subscription ID to manage your plan.
Instagram Content
When you submit an Instagram URL, our backend downloads the audio temporarily to perform transcription. We do not store the audio file after transcription is complete. The resulting transcript text is stored in your account so you can access it later.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the transcription service
- To enforce your plan's monthly transcript and duration limits
- To send transactional emails (billing receipts, magic link sign-ins)
- To improve accuracy and performance of our AI models via aggregated, anonymised usage signals
- To detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive use
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Data Retention
Audio files are deleted immediately after transcription — typically within seconds of the job completing.
Transcript text is stored in your account until you delete it or close your account.
Account data (name, email, plan) is retained for as long as your account exists. Upon account deletion, all associated transcripts and usage logs are permanently deleted within 30 days.
4. Third-Party Services
We share data with the following third parties only as necessary to operate the Service:
AssemblyAI
Speech-to-text transcription. Audio is sent to AssemblyAI via a secure URL and deleted after processing.

We use a single session cookie set by Auth.js to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.
We use sessionStorage in your browser to temporarily hold a URL you typed before signing in, so we can auto-fill it after authentication. This data never leaves your device.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: request a copy of your personal data
- Deletion: request permanent deletion of your account and all data
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate data
- Portability: receive your transcript data in a machine-readable format
- Objection: object to certain processing of your data

7. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted databases at rest, and strict access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
